Paasitorni

Built in the first decades of the twentieth century, Helsinki Congress Paasitorni is a unique conference and congress centre in the heart of Helsinki. Paasitorni enjoys a waterfront location in Siltasaari, near Hakaniemi market, and within easy reach of excellent transport links. The building is of great historic value and the premises have been painstakingly restored.

Paasitorni offers an exceptionally wide and versatile range of top conference facilities and fabulous restaurants, with even more options lined up for the end of summer 2012. Late summer will also see the completion of the new Scandic Paasi hotel whose 170 rooms will open up a whole new world in hotel experiences.

Ownership and operation

Helsinki Congress Paasitorni is maintained by the Helsinki Workers’ Association (Helsingin työväenyhdistys HTY).  Paasitorni was built as a Workers’ House, providing leisure activities, entertainment and education for the workers of Helsinki, in 1908. HTY owns the congress centre property and runs it as a conference, meeting and congress venue.

HTY rents its restaurant space to the restaurant company Graniittiravintolat Oy, part of the Ravintolakolmio Group. The hotel premises are rented by Scandic Hotels Oy.

Helsinki Workers’ Association

Founded in 1884, the Helsinki Workers’ Association is one of the oldest Finnish language organisations still in operation to this day. HTY has almost 50 member organisations and incorporates sections for the different occupations, choirs, orchestras, party-political sections and sports clubs. In addition to Paasitorni, HTY also holds a 98% stake in the housing association Kiinteistöosakeyhtiö Sturenkatu 27.
HTY’s main task is to maintain and develop the architecturally and historically valuable Paasitorni building.

The managing director of the Helsinki Workers’ Association is Jorma Bergholm, the construction manager is Jarmo Laaksonen and the financial secretary is Eeva-Liisa Tiihonen.
